It’s the perfect nutrition to build a strong immune system for your little one. The benefits of colostrum are numerous. It is low in quantity but high in calories, making it the perfect food for your baby’s tiny tummy. Your baby only needs a few milliliters per feed right after birth. Colostrum also helps reduce the risk of infections and illnesses in your baby.
To make sure you’re able to collect colostrum easily and efficiently, our Colostrum Collection kit is an absolute must-have. With your midwife or gynecologist’s approval, you can start your breastfeeding journey from 36 weeks gestation. Our kit is also the perfect bag to take with you to the hospital to hand express in the first few days after giving birth. Hand expressing during this time will reduce trauma to your nipples, which is why it’s so beneficial to your breastfeeding journey and your overall comfort.

Why is it important to express colostrum and what are the importance?
According to the WHO 2009, colostrum is your baby’s very first immunisation! It is packed with antibodies, antioxidants and is important to build a strong immune system for your baby. Colostrum is the first form of breastmilk your baby will drink. It is a thick, sticky, yellowish liquid, high in calories and low in quantity. Your baby only needs a few millilitres per feed in the first few days of life. Remember that any amount of colostrum will be exceptionally beneficial to your baby.
Building up a supply of colostrum is useful in case your baby needs extra feeds due to sugar levels dropping, or if you are on strong medication and are unable to breastfeed your baby. If you are diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes this will be handy to express colostrum with your doctor's approval. This will eliminate the need to offer formula. Rather offer your baby stored colostrum.
It is also good to have stored colostrum if you know your baby will need special care or if you may be separated from your baby.
Colostrum changes to breastmilk within a couple of days after your baby's birth. You only have limited time to express this amazing liquid gold that your breasts have produced.
